IIA-Australia Launches Internal Audit Excellence Framework: Value-Based Internal Audit
The Institute of Internal Auditors–Australia (IIA-Australia) has launched a new publication, Internal Audit Excellence Framework: Value-Based Internal Audit, providing practical guidance for internal audit leaders seeking to enhance the strategic contribution of Line Three.
The new framework outlines the Value-Based Internal Audit methodology designed to strengthen an internal audit function’s ability to create, protect and sustain value. It brings together the building blocks internal audit can use to elevate professional practice to contributing insight, foresight and practical guidance that help organisations achieve their strategic goals.

The Value-Based Internal Audit methodology integrates assurance, advisory capability, insight and foresight while maintaining the independence and objectivity that underpin the profession’s ability to deliver value.
When applied effectively, the approach can strengthen organisational performance, reinforce accountability, enhance governance maturity, support evidence-based decision-making and build stakeholder confidence. The publication expands on these principles and provides guidance for chief audit executives seeking to enhance internal audit effectiveness and impact.
The framework aligns with the Global Internal Audit Standards, published in 2024, supporting internal audit teams as they respond to the expanding expectations placed on assurance leaders.
