This training course will provide attendees with an introduction to IT auditing, emphasising the concepts through exercises and case studies. Internal audit professionals will develop knowledge of basic IT audit concepts that can be used to facilitate integrated audit efforts within their organisation.

  • Overview of IT Auditing, Concepts and Controls: Why IT Auditing and What Is It?

  • General Control: Logical Security

  • General Control: Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Disaster Recovery (DR), and Backup Processing

  • Application Controls

  • General Control: Change and Patch Management

  • Cloud Computing and Service Organisation Control (SOC) Reports

  • General Control: System Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • End User Computing


Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course, participants will understand how to: 

  • Perform an audit of IT applications supporting key business processes

  • Coordinate the assessment of IT risk with the evaluation of IT general controls

  • Perform a risk assessment and evaluation of controls over end user computer applications

Delivery Format: Facilitator-led training via Zoom (Note: This training program will be delivered in two 3 and a half-hour lessons, over two days using Zoom. Registrations will be strictly limited to 10 participants to allow maximum interaction in the online environment.)

Garry has experience in information security, IT governance and risk management since the '80s. He has been involved in IT audit for 35 years, having started in the era of punched-card systems, achieved ISACA's CISA, CISM, CGEIT, CRISC and CDPSE credentials, and is an APMG-certified trainer.
 
He is also a mentor in ISACA's OneinTech program and presented on security, risk, governance, and audit in Australia, Portugal, Fiji, Belgium, Japan, Korea, PNG, and New Zealand.

He has served on over a dozen ISACA Boards and Committees (including as International Vice President, Treasurer, CISM Committee Chair, Sydney Chapter President and Treasurer, among others) and for NSW Government (most notably as Founder and Chair of "Information Security Managers in Government" (today called the NSW Government's Community of Practice).
