As Senior Manager, Analytics at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Andre combines a passion for technology with a commitment to continuous improvement, using automation and AI to strengthen assurance outcomes and deliver greater value to stakeholders.
In this interview, Andre shares how receiving the award has influenced his professional journey, the opportunities that followed, and how he continues to balance career, study and innovation in a rapidly evolving environment.

How did you feel when you won the Award?
Winning the Emerging Internal Audit Leader of the Year Award was an incredible honour. I felt a deep sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that my hard work and dedication to the field of internal auditing were being recognised by such a prestigious organisation representing my profession for my country.
What have you done since receiving the Award?
Since receiving the award, I have been in full study mode. I completed the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification. This has been a significant milestone in my career, as it has broadened my skillset and deepened my understanding of information systems and technology further complimenting my internal audit skills.
Has the Award provided any new opportunities or recognition with your peers, organisation?
The award has certainly opened up new opportunities and brought additional recognition from my peers and within my organisation. It has highlighted my commitment to excellence and innovation in internal auditing, and I have received numerous congratulations and support from colleagues and industry professionals. The spotlight has been well received and has been sparking some exciting conversations both internally and externally which gives great hope for future opportunities.
What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is the opportunity to leverage automation and AI to increase productivity and free up time for critical thinking and value-adding tasks to better assist my stakeholder to identify and solve real business challenges. The dynamic nature of internal auditing allows me to continuously learn and adapt, ensuring that I am always at the forefront of industry developments.
What do you like to do in your spare time? (non-work related)?
I love spending time with family and friends, traveling, and engaging in outdoor activities. I am always looking for my next nature trail and weekend adventure to capitalise on the beautiful weather and rich natural environment in Australia.
What has been your biggest challenge in the past 12 months?
The biggest challenge in the past 12 months has been balancing my professional and family responsibilities with my studies for the CISA certification while also keeping abreast of new developments with AI to help shape my team’s strategy. It required a great deal of time management and dedication, but the effort has been incredibly rewarding.
What are your goals for the coming 12 months?
My goals for the coming 12 months include continuing to broaden my skillset and staying at the cutting edge of technology. I aim to explore new ways to integrate AI and automation into our processes, ensuring that we remain efficient and effective in our audits. Additionally, I plan to seek out opportunities for professional development and further certifications to enhance my expertise and currently considering certifications offered by Amazon Web Services.
