Together in collaboration with the Financial Services
Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and the IIA-Australia Youth Leadership Committee,
the Young Members of Institute of Internal Auditors - Australia are delighted to
kick off the first event of the year and would like to cordially invite you to
our upcoming event on Tuesday 13th April 2021.
It has been a year of challenge and growth and we
are very excited to bring you a powerhouse panel, comprising of senior
management/leaders across various industries, who will share with us their
unique and inspiring career journeys on the topic of “Leading through
uncertainties: Taking charge of your career development”. Tune in or be here in
person, to hear their thoughts and experiences including any highlights and
setbacks (i.e. Covid-19 impacts) along with any tips and advice pertaining to
the skills they have learnt and are still learning throughout their professional
journey.

Melanie de Beer - Group Assurance Manager,
BGC
Melanie was born and raised in South
Africa where she completed her internal audit degree in 2002. She obtained her
CIA in 2005 and this became her Global passport, giving her opportunities to
live and work in England, New Zealand and now here in Perth. Most of Melanie’s
career has been in assurance and risk but she has also held roles in health
& safety and project management. Melanie has diversified her skills and
knowledge by choosing a range of employers and industries and recently joined
BGC Australia to set up their Group Assurance function.Melanie has two boys aged 13 and 10 who keep her busy when she’s
not at work. She loves to go to the beach (but not swim), bake, watch movies and
read.
Patrick Fisher - Manager Operational Audit and
Advisory, BHP
Patrick’s current role is audit
manager within BHP’s Operational Audit Team. He is the head of internal audit
for BHP Perth and sits on the WA External Affairs Lead Team which comprises of
Corporate Affairs, Compliance, Communication, Legal, Sustainability and Public
Policy. He has a mix of experience in Professional Services, Operational Mining
roles and Internal Audit. Over the course of his career to date he has worked in 19 different
countries (Australia, Japan, India, China, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia,
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Ghana, Mali, USA, Chile, Russia, Spain, Hong Kong,
Canada, UK, Hungary) and in non-work time enjoys playing cricket and spending
time with his growing family – 2 daughters (5 and 2) and a son on the way.
Pauline Gazzard - WA General Manager for
Business Development, Westpac
Pauline’s role as Regional General Manager Business
Development involves leading a team of Business Development Mangers, active in
the acquisition market for businesses in the Commercial and SME segments.
Pauline has enjoyed a long and varied career in Finance, Business and
Leadership. Pauline’s first 16 years of her career were at Northern Bank, a
subsidiary of NAB in Ireland where she started as a Teller, before moving into
Business Bank, and also spent time as a Regional Credit Manager. After coming to
Australia in late 2013 for a holiday, she never looked back. Pauline is very
much a people person and loves social interactions. Whilst her family are still
all in Ireland, she is kept company by her cavoodle, Flossy! In her downtime,
she loves exploring the coastline of WA, soaking up the sunshine, and is
currently building her dream home.
Stuart Blakemore - Group Manager Internal Audit,
Perenti
Stuart is the Group Manager, Internal
Audit at Perenti, a mining services company, a role he has held for approx. 8
months. Prior to joining Perenti, Stuart worked at Clough as the Group Manager
Risk & Assurance. Born in England, Stuart has spent most of his career to
date at PwC in both the UK and Australia, specialising in Internal Audit and
Risk Management. Stuart left PwC as a Risk Assurance Director, which provided a
sound platform for his roles at Clough and Perenti. Stuart moved to Perth in
2007 with his wife Sarah and two sons, Will and Dan.Stuart is an avid Liverpool FC supporter, a passionate
West Coast Eagles supporter and a terrible golfer!
