Our Conferences and Special Events
Attracting up to 2,000 internal audit and risk professionals each year, the IIA-Australia's suite of conferences and special events provide an outstanding opportunity to stay up-to-date with the latest development, trends and research relevant to the internal audit profession. Annual events include SOPAC® (rotating between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane), the WA and SA regional conferences, the Public Sector Conference in Canberra and the Local Government Forum.
IIA-Australia conferences are professionally managed through the National Office. Topics are relevant and speakers are drawn from Australia and internationally.
SOPAC 2014
23 to 26 March, Melbourne
Melbourne will be the host city for SOPAC 2014. SOPAC stands for the South Pacific and Asia Conference and over the years of growth and innovation it has become a trusted brand for internal auditors in Asia Pacific and is renowned as one of the largest and most valued internal audit conferences in the region.
The program will be comprised of keynote sessions, concurrent streams of presentations and panel discussions. Like previous years, the program will be delivered by senior industry practitioners, industry experts and academics from Asia, Europe, North America, Pacific and Australia.
SOPAC 2013 was a great success which attracted a large number of participants and with 2014 being in Melbourne we anticipate an even greater attendance.

Public Sector Internal Audit Conference
25 to 26 July, Canberra
The 9th annual Public Sector Internal Audit Conference brings together influential speakers to provide insight, expert guidance and provide delegates the opportunity to participate in panel discussions focusing on internal audit, risk management, compliance and governance in the public sector.
The conference addresses the current and ongoing risk and control challenges facing the sector, including, the changing risk profile; new expectations of Audit and risk committees; emerging technology risks; impacts of government reforms; and, how the internal audit professional can demonstrate the value they can offer in the change the process.
The program will feature a series of high level keynote sessions as well as two streams of practically focussed strategic and technical sessions and two post conference master classes designed to enable our profession to assist their organisations in actioning value in times of change.

Western Australia Internal Audit Conference 2013
26 Septemeber, Canberra
Focussing on the theme of “Getting more out of the asset of internal audit” this year’s program will address how the internal audit function can be seen as a value-add asset for their organisation. The program will focus on how the internal audit function can address contemporary risk issues such as project risk, emerging IT risks and regulatory compliance risk. The other key area of focus will be on reflecting on internal audit management issues, looking at areas such as effective internal audit sourcing, optimising the internal audit using technology and developing KPIs to measure internal audits value-add.
The program will consist of a mixed format of keynote, technical, panel sessions and two post-conference masterclasses. The technical stream will focus on specific internal audit issues and methodologies offering practical insights and solutions. Keynote sessions will provide a high-level view of the wider business and strategic issues that are impacting organisations and the profession. The post-conference masterclasses will cover detailed approaches on internal audit methodologies and skills.
